Trump and Muslims

Donald Trump has been elected the 45th president of the United States. It came after a controversial campaign that included contentious remarks about Muslims.

Within days of his electoral win, media reported increasing cases of Islamophobia and abuse of Muslims in the US. Women wearing hijab have been beaten up and their headscarves ripped off while being told to leave the country.

And the threat to Muslims is not limited to the US. Trump's arrogant and openly abusive remarks against Muslims seem to have given license to far-right groups in Europe, too, to be openly abusive towards Muslims. And the rise of such political groups is creating fear among all Western Muslims.

What does the Trump presidency mean for American Muslims and Muslims elsewhere? Will he backtrack on his threats against Muslims or actually go ahead with them? And even if he doesn't directly discriminate and threaten Muslims in his country, what will the effect of his victory be on the rest of Western and even global Muslims given the divisive and Islamophobic campaign that he ran
